Data Destruction

Recycled Materials Group can sanitize and shred over 3,000 terabytes per day at our Data destruction lab in Nashua.

About Data Destruction

We have all the in-house capabilities to safely manage the removal of data from tapes and storage drives and can physically destroy any device that may contain your private information. Our data destruction line is equipped with a variety of tools including hundreds of loose drive wiping beds, specialized rigs for mobile devices and other various types of drives, and a shredder for the physical destruction of hard drives.

Upon receipt we remove all storage devices, client asset tags and identifying marks, and perform a thorough physical inspection of all equipment for any other forms of proprietary data such as data which might be found on abandoned media, or printed documents hidden in copiers, printers, and fax machines.

  • Shredding – The simplest and most straight forward method of data destruction is shredding. Again, we have our own shredder and handle this at our facility. After Shredding, metal residue is sent to an approved downstream vendor (DSV) for further refining and smelting. In other words, they are melted down to recover non-ferrous and precious metal content. Upon completion of processing, we provide each client with a Certificate of Destruction and a serialized list of all the hard drives.
  • Overwriting – Overwriting can be deployed when the client does not require physical destruction. The default method used for overwriting is a NIST compliant purge and clear. We have other programs for more specialized drives, and all the programs offer various overwriting patterns to meet both NIST and DOD Standards. When wiping drives, the overwriting software captures all the host system details and the drive information including make, model, serial number, and a litany of information about each drive including date, time, and standard used for the erasure. That information is stored in our database. Wipe software can then create a variety of reports, including a Certificate of Destruction for any given drive. Any hard drives that cannot be successfully overwritten are of course shredded. Upon completion of processing, we provide each client with a Certificate of Destruction and a list of all the hard drive serial numbers.
